The Pointy End

As some of you know I am doing this trip up the sharp end of the 'plane.  That's when you enter the aircraft and turn left.  Or at Perth where you walk through and say "My God, look at all that leg room" before cramming yourself into the cheap seats with 300 screaming toddlers. Or in other words, business class.

And I have to say, it's bloody great.

They call you by your name, you get a table cloth, the food is almost edible and there is free flowing champagne.  FRENCH champagne at that.  In fact the chap across the aisle from me must have finished off most of a bottle by the time the landing gear went up.  There are orchids in the toilets too.  However I have to reveal that they are the same as the economy lavs.  No bigger, no fancy plush seats, no butler service.  Just bog standard airline bogs.  I was hoping for more.

The weirdest thing up this end of the 'plane is how everybody tries to look unimpressed with it all.  As though it is totally normal to be flying in a comfortable part of the 'plane.  "Champagne, well it's a bit common but if you must".  That sort of thing.  Actually maybe it is normal for these people, after all there is a mining boom on.  But I just sit there looking happy.  I love the service, I love the pretty hosties calling me Doctor, I love the orchids in the lav and I especially love the fancy business class seats.  I could hardly stop fiddling with it.  Seat goes up, seat goes down. The other passengers must have thought I was simple.

Also as the first in a series please find the food I ate below:

Starter: some sort of smoked salmon thingy

Main: Some chicken stirfry thing.

Desert: Chocolate pudding.

Actually the food is still pretty bad, just presented more prettily.  Also I've just decided this may not be a regular thing as I remember I got some really odd looks taking photos of my food.

So I would have to say if you can stretch to it, go business.  Especially if you have the hell flight like I do next week: seventeen and a half hours in the air from Singapore to San Francisco.

That's a lot of champagne.

  1. Wow! The food actually looks restaurant quality.

I am not sure that I could personally justify the extra expense but you make it sound tempting.
