Waiting to fly

Well now I'm just waiting to head off on the trip.  It's a bit of a mixed feeling.  I can't wait for my travels to begin but I have to deal with at least ten lots of airport security and immigration officials between here and London.

If you don't know I'm the bloke at the airport arguing with the Chubb security guards and asking questions they can't answer.  My favourite being "What happens if someone walks off with my belongings while you're fiddle-arseing around with the metal detector wand?".  Usual response: "I dunno".

Very reassuring.

I will actually be a bit more subdued this time as I really don't want any time in an American gulag somewhere.  As long as the people searching me at least slightly polite then I'll let it pass.

More of a worry are the flights themselves.  I will be on aeroplanes for a grand total of 31 hours in the next three weeks.  That'll only get me to New York.  And I really hate flying.

I mean REALLY.

All the bumps, noises and the fact that I have absolutely no control over the plane when it is in the air.  Unfortunately it's the only way to get anywhere when you live on the bottom of the globe.  I sometimes wish you could still drive to Fremantle then get on a ocean liner to take you back to Europe.

I know it would take ages but if a boat goes down I know I can float, if a plane goes down I know I can't fly.

Must have been a bit odd to leave Kalgoorlie after all these years, however, decision made so onwards and upwards as they say. Look forward to seeing you in sunny Glos ( or not) in November.
